I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy this gorgeous day! The weather has been perfect over the past couple of days!
I know it’s been a little while since you’ve heard from Advocates for Adolescent Mothers—We haven’t folded , we’ve just been extremely busy strengthening the foundation of our young organization. Earlier this year, I was selected to become a member of the global-wide GuideStar User Advisory Panel. GuideStar is a leading provider of nonprofit data analyses. Advisers provide feedback on new product ideas, new features, and general improvements to GuideStar. AFAM has also dedicated a considerable amount of time to recruiting new advisers and Board members—We will present the newest directors to join our Board in a later edition of The Archive. In this issue of the Archive, we share a bit of details about our progress and our goals moving forward. We’ve also included a few photos of our activity this year, as well as information about upcoming events and new collaborations. These are our first social events of the year so we hope to receive overwhelming response from our supporters–Our events are always pretty awesome .
Thank you for taking the time to read this edition of The Archive! I appreciate your continued support and hope to have the opportunity to interact with you soon!

EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT GRANT FUNDRAISING PROGRESS
In 2011, Advocates for Adolescent Mothers piloted our Educational Empowerment Grant Initiative, a program designed to provide financial and socio-emotional support to young moms in college. In addition to offering them a $500 grant, the goals of the program were to impart knowledge about managing the roles of mother and college student, enhance critical thinking skills, and ultimately empower the young moms to successfully complete college. We learned a lot over the first 2 years of the pilot and made some changes for the 2013 cohort. Since announcing the acceptance of applications for the 2013 program year in May, we have raised $1,020 from individual donors supporting this program. This program is entirely funded by the support of individual donors. The cost of administering this program is approximately $2,000 per student. It is our goal to raise $6,000 to cover the cost of services to 3 teen moms in college. It is not too late to donate and support this unprecedented anti-poverty program.
